In Luke 10, Jesus appoints 72 to go into every town and place where he was about to go. In verses 2-3, “He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”
Perhaps the harvest is overflowing and the laborers are few, because most of us feel unqualified to do the work of the Kingdom. The reality is we are unqualified. However, God is not like the hiring managers of the world looking at credentials to determine if we are worthy and competent to do the work. He deemed us worthy when He bought our redemption with His precious and valuable blood. The day we accepted such gift of grace, that day, we were promoted to managers.
One of my favorite verses in the Scriptures is 1 Peter 4:10, which says “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
The implication is that we all have a gift we received for the purpose of managing the grace God has entrusted us. When we say "yes" to God, he equips us so that the Body of Christ may be built up (Ephesians 4). He makes us competent by His Spirit and through the coaching of those he called to be our pastors and teachers.
The question, then, is not “am I qualified for the job?”. The question is “what am I doing with my gift?”
Pray with me today for God to raise up Godly leadership and laborers in the church. Be specific to the local congregation you are a part of. And if you are the answer, then just pray “Here I am, Lord. Send me!”
