It has been a few weeks since the release of Glimpse of Glory, and I am grateful for every person who has listened, commented, and shared their congratulations and support. Releasing a project is always a scary thing for me as I never really know what to expect.
This uncertainty is the essence of “The Unknown”. Unlike the rest of the songs in the EP, where the presence of God is evident through creation or by looking within, “The Unknown” is about finding beauty in… well... the unknown. It is about trusting purely in the nature and promises of God and believing He is there even when we cannot see Him.
We live in a time and in a country where everything we want is at our disposal. But our false sense of control is immediately dismantled when we face circumstances beyond our control, or like the song says, when we find ourselves in a tunnel with no projection of the future. "The Unknown" reminds us God is faithful and sovereign. It calls us to rest, to trust, to remain, to stand firm.
Two years ago, I had a chance to sit down with my friend Damian Rico, my mentor Denise Harmon and my friend Fidelia Dee Salinas to discuss the heart behind the song. Dee and Denise also shared their perspectives and provided encouragement for those who are facing uncertain circumstances. Take a listen.
It still breaks my heart to acknowledge Dee went home with the Lord earlier this year and dedicate this song to her and her family. I have yet to meet someone who can navigate the unknown like she could. Dee genuinely trusted the Lord until her last breath, and she taught us that faith is not faith at all if we cannot trust God in the good times and in the most challenging of circumstances.
For Dee, the unknown was a mountain she had to climb. For me, the unknown was a tunnel I had to navigate. For all of us, the unknown can mean many things, including stepping into a New Year without knowing what it will bring.
When there is no sense of projection or clarity of what tomorrow holds, we can trust God holds tomorrow, that He's gone to where we haven't gone before.
I hope and pray your trust increases as you look forward to a New Year or as you walk through all the unknowns in your life. If there is anything I can pray for, send me a quick note on my contact page with your name and what to pray for? One of the most valuable tools we have in the unknown is people to stand in the gap with/for us.
Thanks again for reading and listening. Happy New Year!
