Live Performance of "Heart of Easter"

Writer: N RuizN Ruiz

I am still reminiscing about my 40th birthday and EP pre-release celebration. Joined by family and close friends, I had an opportunity to showcase all the songs in the EP. This live performance video was captured on March 26, 2022, at Camino de Paz Christian Church in Fort Worth, Texas, and filmed by brothers Jorge and Bryan Hernandez.

The beautiful voice on this song is that of my friend, Matthew Johns. I chose Matt for this song, because we have both struggled many times with seeing ourselves the way God sees us. Thankfully, we have been a source of encouragement to one another. He came into my life at a time when I was completely broken, and God used his witty and fun personality to restore me back from mourning to joy. In the same way, in times when Matt felt discouraged, the Lord used me to remind him that he was/is so loved. Sharing this song with him blesses me more than I think he even realizes. (Well, he may realize it when/if he reads this.)

Let's talk about the lyrics.

VERSE 1: I look up to the sky searching for a sign of wonder. The stars adorn the night, the moon brings to life Your splendor
PRE-CHORUS: Creation is beautiful. Even then You make me reach inside of my soul to see a miracle, a display of who You are in the beauty of a transformed heart.

"Heart of Easter" is a declaration of faith. It is us looking to creation for a sign of wonder and then realizing we can also be amazed by how God has created us, and the wonderful things he has done in us.

VERSE 2: I look out towards the sea, a sight not wholly seen, and I wonder how You made all that's beneath and still created me in Your likeness.

There is so much depth beneath the sea; it is more than we can fathom, and yet God says he created us in His image (Genesis 1:27). Overwhelming.

PRE-CHORUS: Creation is beautiful. Even then, You make me reach inside of my soul to see a miracle, a display of who You are in the beauty of a transformed heart.

Oxford dictionary defines a miracle this way: "a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency." When I consider who I was and whom I have become, it truly is a miracle. There is no way such transformation could have taken place by my own might. I didn't have it in me to change. I still don't. It is truly an inexplicable work of the Holy Spirit.

CHORUS: God of the universe, how wonderful Your handiwork, even greater is what You've done in me, which You are faithful to complete.

I want to be clear; this song is not about us being greater. It is about God and the depth of His love. He is the God of universe. Creative. Detailed. Powerful. Faithful to conform us into His likeness.

BRIDGE: Though I hear you in the rain, must I look to the end of the rainbow? Or will I see You in my face reflected as the sun blazes through the window?

We do not have to look too far for a glimpse of God's glory. If we are abiding in Christ, we should be able to see Him in us when we look at ourselves in the mirror or in a reflection.

TAG: You are faithful; You are faithful to complete it

Transformation is a process. Philippians 1:6 says: And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

We are a work in progress. He is truly faithful to complete it!
