Thursday's prayer focus was for God to renew our hearts to obey Him.
God made a promise that he would give His people a new heart and put a new spirit within them, removing hearts of stone and replacing it with one of flesh. His promise added that the Spirit within us would move us to follow God’s decrees and to maintain the law.
So how do we obey? By remaining in Him. The Spirit is God and therefore, the Spirit who lives in us moves us to follow himself.
But if we are to obey, then what we obeying? The answer is simple: to love Jesus and to love another. Let's not make it more complex or difficult than that.
A heart of stone will always be devoid of love and ruled by sin. A renewed heart, a heart of flesh, will always be filled with compassion and forgiveness, and produce a harvest of righteousness. How do we know? Because of the Spirit within us.
